Historical and Doctrinal Studies (Includes Ethics)

Faith in the God of Jesus Christ lies at the heart of Catholic belief. Over the centuries, the Church has endeavored to faithfully bear witness to life and ministry, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The Department of Historical and Doctrinal Studies offers courses in Doctrine, Moral Theology, and History to prepare students with the knowledge of the content and development of the Christian faith, and the ability to competently interpret the Roman Catholic tradition in a faithful, historically critical, and culturally sensitive manner. This training enables students to engage the moral and social implications of the Roman Catholic tradition, continue to explore it as a living faith ever relevant to new situations, and to advocate for and strategize with the poor and the marginalized.
